Cut open and remove the pit of the avocado. Carefully use a knife for this step. Then add the avocados, salt, garlic, lime juice, and finely chopped cilantro into a mixing bowl.
Use a fork or potato masher to combine everything thoroughly. Give it a taste and see if you want to add additional salt. Keep covered in the refrigerator until ready to enjoy. Tip: when covering guacamole, I like to press the plastic wrap right on top of the guacamole so the plastic touches the guacamole. This helps prevent browning.
Notes
Use ripe avocados- Make sure the avocados are ripe by pressing firmly before cutting them. If they are under ripe, they will be too hard to mash.
Pit the avocados with a knife- Use your knife to pit the avocados by tapping the center part of the knife into the pit, then wiggling it until it pulls out easily.
Add salt to taste- How salty you like your guacamole is a personal preference, so give it a taste and see if you want to add additional salt.
Avoid browning- Any air on the top layer of guacamole will cause browning, so press the plastic wrap right against it to minimize it.
