Easy Raspberry Cheese Danish Recipe
I used store-bought puff pastry dough to make this a quick dessert recipe. However, if you want to go above and beyond you can make this using my homemade danish dough recipe here on the blog. For this cheese danish recipe, I prefer using a faster method. I almost always have these ingredients at home so this pastry can be whipped up very quickly (about 20 minutes) besides the baking time. This is also something I like to serve when having unexpected guests. It looks like it took a long time to make when in reality it’s just as quick as making cookies.

How to make a Cream Cheese Danish with Raspberry Filling
For complete directions and ingredients list, see the printable option at the bottom of the post.
- Prepare your baking sheet with parchment paper and preheat your oven as needed.
- In a bowl, you will combine your cream cheese danish filling mixture and mix with a handheld mixer until well blended, leaving raspberry jam out until later.
- You will cut the puff pastry as shown, and layer your raspberry jam and cream cheese danish filling as appropriate before braiding and topping with an egg wash to bake.
- Top with a drizzle of glaze if desired.
A spoon of glaze drizzled over the top makes this simple cheese danish recipe look beautiful with the bits of raspberry jam showing through the braid.

Full Recipe Instructions
Raspberry Cheese Danish Recipe
Ingredients
- 2 puff pastry sheet
- 8 oz cream cheese
- 6 tbsp ricotta cheese
- 4 tbsp sugar
- 1 tsp lemon juice
- 1/2 cup raspberry jam
- 1 Egg + 1 tbsp water for egg wash
- Glaze:
- 1 tbsp milk
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
Instructions
- Combine cream cheese, ricotta, sugar, and lemon juice with a handheld mixer.
- Place the thawed puff pastry out onto a sheet of floured parchment paper. Roll it out lengthwise about 2 inches.
- Cut the top corners off and begin cutting strips diagonally down the sides of the pastry. You should end up with about 10 strips on each side. Once you reach the bottom strip, cut off the remaining flaps.
- Place the filling in the middle third of each puff pastry sheet. Then pipe out an even layer of raspberry jam on top of the filling (1/4 cup per danish ).
- To make the braid, begin crossing over each strip, alternating between sides. Every time you pull a strip over to the opposite side, gently pinch it down. Before you cross over last strips, fold in the bottom middle flap.
- Brush both danishes with egg wash. Bake at 400 degrees Fahrenheit for 20 minute or until golden brown.
- Make the glaze by combining the milk and powdered sugar. Once the danish is completely cool, drizzle the glaze over it.

Hi – I’m looking forward to making this and am going to try the homemade dough. It looks fantastic! Quick question – does the recipe as shown (with the puffed pastry) make 2 danishes?
Dina says
Hi Jean 🙂 I really hope you love this raspberry cheese danish! This recipe makes 2 danishes when using the puff pastry. The only thing I will mention about the homemade dough is that it makes a larger portion. It’s so that you can freeze some of it since it is a time-consuming recipe. Just giving you a heads up if you don’t want to spend additional time. Also, the puff pastry tastes very similar. I hope that helps! Let me know how it turns out 🙂
Sonia says
Will this freeze after making it . I can make two , but I don’t think we will eat two that fast. Wonder if I can freeze the second danish?

simplyhomecooked says
Hi Sonia 🙂 I know that danishes are something that you can freeze. However, I have never tried freezing this particular raspberry cheese danish so can’t say how it will turn out after. I hope you love this recipe 🙂 Let me know how it goes 🙂

simplyhomecooked says
Yes! This cheese danish really is delicious with some coffee 🙂 Glad to hear you loved this recipe! Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback and I hope you find many more delicious recipes on my blog 🙂
Stacy says
Quick Question – can I make these the night before and then bake them in the morning?
simplyhomecooked says
Hi Stacy 🙂 The pastry dough might get a bit soggy from all the moisture for that long. I would recommend making the filling and having it sit in a bowl overnight. Then you can thaw out your puff pastry. Now you just assemble and bake it in the morning 🙂 Hope that helps and I hope you love this raspberry cheese danish!
Anne says
I just saved your recipe to make this weekend. I see that it makes two danishes. Does each one serve 8 or the two serves 8 total? I’m wondering if those are generous pieces.
simplyhomecooked says
Hi Anne, each danish serves about 4 people. So a total of 8 when you make both danishes. It also really depends on how big or small the slices are. You could probably stretch it to more than 8 people if there is some sort of other dessert being served as well. I hope this helps 🙂 Let me know how it turns out!
Bea says
I used stonewall kitchens blueberry jam. It was great
simplyhomecooked says
Yum! That sounds delicious Bea!
Maggie Moriarty says
What if I were to make my own puff pastry? How big would the sheet of it need to be then?
simplyhomecooked says
Hi Maggie, you’ll want the puff pastry sheet to be rolled out to about 11×9 inches.
Anna says
This is a great recipe! Easy enough, but still super tasty. My only question is, how do you store these, and for how long do they typically last?
simplyhomecooked says
Thank you Anna! Glad to hear you enjoyed this raspberry cheese danish 🙂 Regarding storage, I normally store it in the fridge on a plate with plastic wrap. It will last about 2-3 days this way.
Virginia Murillo says
Hi, Yes, I believe that rolling the sheet for an extra 2 inches really helps to cook all the way. I followed the recipe without rolling the dought and my danish was undercook on the bottom. I tried to figure out why and maybe leave it longer on the oven but I didnt wanted the top to burn.
simplyhomecooked says
Hi Virginia, you are correct. Rolling out the puff pastry dough helps thin it out a little so it bakes faster.
Kelly says
I did not deviate from recipe, but it leaked a lot of liquid (filling)into the middle of the pan. My friend makes this all the time, but this doesn’t happen to hers. Any advice on what I can do to fix this???
Dina says
That’s very interesting. Maybe is has to do with the type of jam you used. Mine was quite thick. Was your jam runny before baking?
Deb Van Nort says
Best coffee cake ever! Moist with a little tang from my freshly grown raspberries. Definitely sharing!
simplyhomecooked says
Thank you for the kind feedback Deb! 🙂 I’m glad you enjoyed it.
Fallon says
Do you think I can assemble the night before and bake in the morning?
simplyhomecooked says
Hi Fallon, unfortunately I do not recommend assembling it the night before. The filling will make the puff pastry soggy. If you would like to save some time you can thaw the puff pastry in the fridge the night before. I hope you enjoy this recipe 🙂
Adele says
Great recipe!

Josephine says
Can you use strawberry preserves instead?
simplyhomecooked says
Hi Josephine, yes you can use strawberry preserves instead.

Sonja says
This looks awesome and I want to make it for next weekend. But I have a question:
In Step 2 you write, “Roll it (the puff pastry) out lengthwise about 2 inches.” Is “2” inches a typo and it should be 12 inches, or 24 – or am I completely misunderstanding something here? I’ve never used puff pastry before and would be most grateful if you could clarify this. Thank you so much! Sonja
simplyhomecooked says
Thank you for the compliment Sonja 🙂 I apologize for the confusion. What I meant is to roll the dough out an extra 2 inches than the size that it currently is form the package. I hope that clears things up.
Sonja says
Thank you so much – that makes perfect sense now! 😀
simplyhomecooked says
No problem 🙂
Elizabeth Scranton says
Can this be made without ricotta cheese
simplyhomecooked says
Hi Elizabeth, you can substitute the ricotta cheese with more cream cheese.
Shelby says
Does this recipe make two braids? Or do I not use both pastry sheets?
simplyhomecooked says
Hi Shelby, yes this recipe makes 2 braids.
Gen says
Can these be frozen?
simplyhomecooked says
Hi Gen, I’m not too sure if you can freeze this. I’ve never tried freezing it before.

Mary Ann says
This recipe is truly easy and delicious! I never used puff pastry before and your instructions made a beautiful work of art easy. This Danish treat does not last long in our house and is a joy to share with friends and family. I’ve used other fillings as well with the cream cheese spread, cherry and today blueberry peach. Also used what i learned to make an apple cinnamon Danish, slicing apples thinly and tossing in a cinnamon sugar mix like pie filling…sooooo delicious! Thanks for sharing and teaching the folding with your clear photos and instructions.

Thank you so much Mary Ann! I’m so happy this recipe was easy to follow and you enjoyed the taste 🙂
Jamie Monaco says
I used Whipped Cream Cheese in a tub and it made the cheese filling a little too runny. Will use and 8oz Block next time. My mistake but Super Easy & Delicious!!
simplyhomecooked says
Hi Jamie, ya that would change the consistency a bit 🙂 Glad you loved this cheese danish recipe and thank you so much for your feedback 🙂 I hope you find many more delicious recipes on my blog 🙂
