What You’ll Need
Ingredient Notes
- Espresso- This gives this mocha it’s caffeine hit. It’s more concentrated than coffee, so you don’t have to use as much.
- White chocolate powder- You can also use white chocolate sauce. This adds the chocolatey flavor to this yummy Starbucks copycat drink.
- Milk- Using whole milk will give it lots of rich and creamy flavor, but you can use another type of milk.
- Ice- Any ice works, but the smaller the pieces, the quicker they will melt.
- Whipped cream- This is optional, but a dollop on top of your iced mocha makes it a real treat.
Add-ins and Substitutions
- Substitute coffee for the espresso- If you haven’t got an espresso machine, then you can use cold brew coffee or instant coffee. You can use 1-3 teaspoons of instant coffee for 1 oz. of espresso.
- Make it lighter- Using lower fat milks, like skim milk, 1%, or 2% milk, will make this drink a little lighter. Keep in mind, this does reduce some of the richness.
- Make it dairy-free- You can use a dairy-free white chocolate powder and sub a plant-based milk for the4 regular milk, such as soy milk, almond milk, oat milk, or coconut milk.
- Make it decaf- If you want to enjoy this latte later in the day, substitute decaf espresso in this mocha to avoid the caffeine (though there is a small amount in decaf).
How to Make Iced White Chocolate Mocha
- Combine the chocolate and espresso. Mix the white chocolate powder or white chocolate sauce with 1 shot of espresso.
- Mix thoroughly. Give it a good thorough stir to ensure that the sugar granules have dissolved.
- Add to ice. Then pour the sweet espresso over ice in a cup or glass.
- Add the milk. Lastly, pour the milk over the ice as well. Give it a quick stir and top with whipped cream and caramel if you like.
Pro Tip: If you like your coffee stronger, you can definitely do a double shot of espresso.
Recipe Tips
- Use higher-fat milk- For the best flavor, use whole or 2% milk for this mocha. The higher fat content means extra richness and a creamy flavor that you’ll love.
- Use cold milk– Warm milk will melt your ice and dilute your drink. The colder the milk, the better for this copycat recipe.
- Fresh ice– Ice that’s been in the freezer a while begins to take on smells and flavors of the things around it. Fresh ice will give your iced white chocolate mocha the best flavor.
- Enjoy right away– Otherwise, the ice will melt and dilute your flavors. It’s best to drink this macchiato freshly made.
FAQs
There is usually one shot of espresso in a white chocolate mocha that is 12-16 oz. You can add a second shot for larger drinks.
If you’re using white chocolate syrup, such as Ghirardelli or Torani white chocolate sauce, in your mocha, you would typically add 3 pumps for a drink with one shot of espresso (a 12-16 oz drink), 4 pumps with two shots (a 16-20 oz drink), and 5 pumps for anything larger (20 oz and up).
