What You’ll Need
Ingredient Notes
- Cheese ravioli- Pre-made ravioli is easy and convenient, making this recipe a quick one for busy nights.
- Heavy cream- This adds rich flavor and a creamier texture to the dish.
- Cream cheese- Full-fat cream cheese will yield the most creamy sauce.
- Parmesan cheese- This adds a nutty, salty, cheesy flavor that will taste delicious in your sauce.
Add-ins and Substitutions
- Lighten it up- If you want to make a lighter version of this cream sauce, use Half & Half in place of the heavy cream, or substitute a lower-fat version of the cream cheese.
- Add veggies- With four cheese ravioli and a delicious cream sauce, vegetables would be a great addition. Try broccoli, asparagus, spinach, or cherry tomatoes in this dish.
- Make it meaty- If you’re missing the meat, then try some sausage, chicken breast, or ground beef in the sauce.
- Bake it- Layer this ravioli and sauce in a baking dish with mozzarella cheese and bake for 12 minutes at 400 degrees Fahrenheit for a different take on this recipe.
How to Make Four Cheese Ravioli
- Saute the garlic and butter. In a medium saucepan, saute the butter and minced garlic over medium heat.
- Add the cream cheese. Stir for about 30 seconds before adding the cream cheese. Allow it to melt.
- Add the heavy cream. Once the cream cheese has melted, add in the heavy cream and let the sauce come to a simmer. Then remove it from the heat.
- Combine the rest of the ingredients. To the ravioli sauce, add the grated Parmesan cheese, salt, and pepper. You can add more salt if you prefer.
- Prepare the ravioli. Boil a pot of salted water and cook the four cheese ravioli according to the package directions. Then drain them and add them to the cream sauce. Stir and serve with fresh basil.
Pro Tip: Cook the ravioli al dente so they don’t fall apart when they are mixed with the sauce.
Recipe Tips
- Use full-fat ingredients- For the ultimate rich sauce, use full-fat cream cheese and heavy cream to give this dish all the creaminess it deserves.
- Melt the cream cheese fully- You don’t want a mouthful of cream cheese, so make sure this ingredient has fully melted before moving on.
- Use fresh garlic- This has the best flavor and will really level up this amazing Four Cheese Ravioli.
- Reheat with a little extra cream- Cream sauces often become broken while in a cold refrigerator and this will re-incorporate the sauce as it heats.
FAQs
Four cheese ravioli is a type of pasta. The ravioli cheese filling contains a blend of provolone cheese, ricotta cheese, parmesan cheese, and Romano cheese. It can be topped with marinara sauce, olive oil and garlic, a creamy white sauce (as in this recipe), or your favorite pasta sauce.
When it comes to homemade cheese ravioli vs. pre-made ravioli, it’s not really worth the trouble of making your own. While homemade four cheese ravioli would taste great, the time and effort to make it doesn’t really measure up to the convenience of buying it pre-made. And honestly, the pre-made ravioli on the market is really quite good.

My cream cheese got a little funky. Perhaps I should melt on a lower heat setting next time? Although when starting over I did find it better to melt the cream cheese in the heavy cream. Came out very great though

Thank you for the honest feedback Jessica!
