What You’ll Need
Ingredient Notes
- Potatoes- I like to use Yukon Gold potatoes because they roast well and have a wonderful flavor.
- Olive oil- This will help the skin of the potato get lightly crispy and also adhere the seasonings to it.
- Seasonings- Garlic powder, Kosher salt, and Black pepper add tasty flavoring to the dish.
Add-ins and Substitutions
- Substitute other seasonings- You can add onion powder, rosemary, thyme, chives, or smoked paprika for a different flavor profile.
- Add some heat- Make these potatoes with some cayenne pepper or red pepper flakes to make them spicy.
- Make them savory- Use bacon fat instead of oil, and then top them with bacon and Parmesan cheese before serving.
- Substitute other potatoes- You can also make this with mini gold potatoes, red potatoes, or even sweet potatoes.
How to Make Roasted Yukon Gold Potatoes
- Prep the potatoes. Wash and dry your potatoes. Then slice them into halves
- Season them. Place them on a large baking sheet and season them with olive oil, salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Mix thoroughly.
- Arrange the potatoes. Flip all of the potatoes cut side down in a single layer.
- Roast them. Preheat your oven to 400°F and roast for about 45 to 55 minutes or until fork-tender, and crispy golden on the outside.
Pro Tip: For an easy clean up, line your baking sheet with aluminum foil before placing the potatoes on it.
Recipe Tips
- Dry the potatoes thoroughly- Make sure you dab the potatoes with a paper towel before oiling and seasoning them to make sure they are nice and dry, to better their chances of crisping up.
- Thoroughly cover the potatoes with seasonings- Use your hands to thoroughly toss the potatoes with the spices and oil.
- Use a little extra oil- Oil is the magic ingredient when making extra crispy air fryer potatoes. Add a little bit more for some super crispy results.
FAQs
It’s not necessary to boil your potatoes before roasting them. The raw potatoes will cook during the roasting time in the oven where the skin will get crispy while the inside becomes tender. However, boiling the potatoes beforehand can reduce the amount of time in the oven.
If your potatoes are not getting crispy, it might be because they weren’t completely dry when they began cooking. Make sure to dry them thoroughly after washing, removing all water to allow the skin to get crispy. Also, make sure the oven temperature is high enough. This recipe calls for 400 degrees Fahrenheit.
